Tag - I'm it!

I have officially tagged my whole LJ. This means that you guys can subscribe to my Sour Revenge tag and this (through some process that I am to understand is not dissimilar to sorcery) lets you keep track of it without having to check my journal or friend me. I have many tags, so if you are more interested in icons, other fandom fics, or my rl-related posts, there are tags for all of those, and more.

Unfortunately, the Boxer layout doesn't let me display my tags, so I'm going to have to customize my journal. So, if you'll bare with me while I do that, I'll let you all know when the tags are see-able. I just wish LJ hadn't changed the way of customizing your journal; my choices are so limited now!

While tagging, I re-discovered what I had once called my "Howard" 'verse, for want of a better name. I have found that 'better name' and now it's called "A New Kind of Family." If you don't remember, that's the one where Spike and Drusilla had stolen a baby!Xander from the Sunnydale hospital and raised him as their own. I have many fics that I've started/outlined that I plan on continuing after I've finished SR, but I think ANKOF is going to be first on that list. Since it's not a real WIP, I can write single fics in that and post them with no responsibility.

Having learned from SR, I am very keen on the 'no responsibility' aspect of one-shot fics. No more WiPs for me. If I ever post anything multi-chapter, it will be fully completed by that point.

That's all for now. I have some vague RL news, but I'll put that in when I post the all-clear for the tags.

ETA: Uh... is it possible that free account users can't display their tags? Because I'm not seeing any option for it.

ETA part deux: Never mind. I see it depends on the layout you're using.

I just want to point out that if you track a tag, you get email notifications whenever a *new* entry is posted with that tag, so you should try to get into the habit of tagging all new entries if you want them to be useful in this way.

Thanks, I'll try to make it a habit. I was wondering how people used tags. It didn't occur to me that it'd be e-mail notifications... I just guessed it'd go to their friends pages or something, so I couldn't figure out the exceptional benefit for doing this. Now I get it. =-)

Oh, it's fantastic, and I use them all the time.

A lot of times I don't have the time to actually scroll through my flist, but if there's a special update or something that I'm waiting for, I get a notification in my email, which I nearly always have open. It helps make sure I don't miss something I'm looking forward to. In fact, sometimes if I read WIPs that *aren't* tagged, I'll stop reading, simply because I miss several updates and my interest wanes.

Oh, wow! I'm glad I was encouraged to get tagged-up, then. Between the exceptionally sporadic updates and that lack of being tagged it's no wonder I've lost so many readers over the years. Hopefully now that I've changed the latter, I'll be able to see to the former.

I'm still trying to get my layout to make me happy and I can't work some aspects out. You seem fairly savvy about LJ things, so could I please ask you a question or two?
Jun. 7th, 2008 03:00 am (UTC)
Ask away, hon. Dunno if I'll know the answer, but I'll give it a go.
Jun. 7th, 2008 03:10 am (UTC)
Thanks. If you don't know the answer, it's no biggie. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, anyway, but I would love to be proven wrong.

I want to have a different header. Something to be created later - but I don't know how to replace the one LJ supplied me with with one of my own.

Also, I want my friend's page layout to go back to the Boxer style while my main page stays this new Expressive style.

I knew how to do both before my paid account expired, so I suspect the answers are that I can't do them with a basic account, but, then again, the layout for customizing your journal has changed so much since last time, that I could just be missing something.

Do you have any idea if I can do those without upgrading my account?
Jun. 7th, 2008 03:17 am (UTC)
Oh, hell. Honestly, I'm not sure I know how to do either - I haven't had a basic account in ages, and layouts are the one LJ thing I'm not too great at. I can follow instructions, and fiddle about a bit, but for the most part I'm in the kiddie pool.

Sorry I can't be more help. :(

It's no problem. I'm about to post a new entry, anyway, so I'll just ask there. Thanks anyway, though!

Thats great. Wish more writers with WIP's would take your example it makes following favorite wip's and looking for updates.

Now that this tagging project is nearing completion, any plans on updating Sour Revenge, I so wanna know how things are going to change now that Xander fed spike.

Sour Revenge has been entirely mapped out. All I needs to do is get my lazy bum to actually write the last few chapters for posting. I've been in a creative/productive black hole lately which has been keeping me from writing.

Not being ambitious makes me lose interest, losing interest makes me less ambitious... it's a terrible downward spiral that I'm trying to break.

Ill be your cheering section if you want!
Jun. 7th, 2008 03:16 am (UTC)
=-D I'd love a cheering section! All this tagging business is renewing some of interest, though, I'd have to say. I even opened my outline and found that I'd had a few paragraphs already written.

These are all very encouraging. I say, this story just might get written!

When I was the Award I remembered reading this and how much I enjoyed it. Glad to be on the "home team" RA RA RA!!!

i love tags stags are awesome and so are the notifications. *hugs* thank you for not abandoning SR.
Jun. 7th, 2008 02:43 am (UTC)
*hugs* Although it may not seem like it, but Sour Revenge is always in my mind and constantly holds presence on my to-do lists. And really, I feel like I should be thanking *you* for not abandoning it!

So, thank you!

The new layout looks fabulous, hon! It's so good you're all tagged up. As Snowy said, it's an easy peasy way to keep up to date with a WIP, even if it's not updated very frequently. Go, you! If you're interested in non-LJ layouts, thefulcrum has some idiot-proof instructions for different ones. I should know - that's where I've got several of mine. *g*

Oh! Thanks for the link! I'm doing a quick look and it looks pretty good. I'll do a more thorough look in a minute.

*smooch* You da best. Thanks for helping me tag!
Jun. 7th, 2008 03:53 am (UTC)
Welcome! Now all you need is a mood theme. *g*
Jun. 7th, 2008 04:03 am (UTC)
Hee! Hm... Maybe one of these days, if I can't get inspired to write, but I have the time to be creative, I'll make myself one. Life on Mars, methinks.

Also, I've already picked out a layout I like from that comm: http://community.livejournal.com/thefulcrum/12805.html#cutid1

Whattaya think?
Jun. 7th, 2008 04:08 am (UTC)
No one else will have a Life on Mars mood theme, so you'll be an original!

That's very nice indeed. Sharp, clear, with a side panel to put your tags and links to favourite sites, etc. I'm a fan of unfussy layouts, and that looks to fit the bill perfectly. Yay!
